Hey! It’s Jigen!
Apparently I have a paper due in 10 days that I haven’t started.

It’s pretty much just a competitive contest with a weekly puzzle page that you have to figure out in order to find the gang. (The first level is Fujiko) You sign up to be an Interpol officer, and all those police officers running in the intro are avatars for players, with the ones closer to the front being the ones with the highest scores. Non-Japanese residents can register to play, but they’re not qualified to win the prizes.
There’s quite a few neat animated clips and, and and you get these neat little Achievement things (like a ramen cup!) after each level!
Some fan theories even have Jigen being a runaway Chicago Mobster—‘Daisuke Jigen’ is an assumed name.
And that theory makes sense; Fujiko would make it a point to learn the language of her contacts, and Lupin…is Lupin.
It’s hard to tell whether they’re pulling a trick like they did in Black Lagoon sometimes, where the audio is in one language but the cast is really speaking another, and that it is ‘translated’ for the convenience of the audience. The cast of that show is all speaking English, which only becomes apparent when they go to Japan and Rock has to translate.
Haha yeah I’ve heard that one about Jigen. It fits in nicely with most of the little bits that have been dropped here and there throughout the manga and anime. But it actually has little to do with the reason Jigen speaks with a Jersey/Boston accent. My dad and his best friend were HUGE Lupin fans when they were teens so sometimes they go into Lupin reminiscing mode. We were out boating and I walked past them while they were smoking cigars and drinking and they were talking like they were Lupin and Jigen - as in having a conversation as Lupin and Jigen. I have no idea why xD My dad has a Boston accent, so now whenever I imagine Jigen talking it’s in a Boston accent. As for the Jersey one - I honestly don’t know where it came from. It just sort of happened one day.
I think they are speaking Japanese to one another since it seems as though it’s the only one they’re all fluent in. There’s also Zenigata, and despite being in the ICPO, I don’t think his English is all that stellar. HAMBAHGAHH.
I noticed something wierd
In the Secret of Mamo, when Jigen and Goemon are being interrogated by the US Government people…Goemon kept asking Jigen questions about what was going on, and made no move to examine the little paper that proves to be a plot point. This makes me wonder…
Can Goemon even undersstand English? What about the rest of the movies/tv episodes?
I am confused!
In my head, Goemon only speaks Japanese fluently but knows conversational English. I figured he’d picked it up along the way with his random travels with Lupin. We know he’s interacted with other characters, and not all of them were Japanese, so the guy must have at least a basic understanding of other languages. Goemon seems to have spent most of his life pre-Lupin training at a temple (or so I’d like to think), so I doubt he’d have come across too many foreigners/had prolonged contact with them. Not calling the guy stupid by any means, but he just doesn’t strike me as the globe-trotting type like the rest of them do. The guy seems pretty content under his waterfalls and there’s nothing wrong with that xD
And as for the rest of them - Jigen speaks with a Jersey accent (don’t ask - sometimes he sounds like he’s from Boston too) and therefore speaks English fluently, Fujiko strikes me as the type of bimbo-ette that would take the time to learn foreign languages just because it’d give her a larger scope of men to pillage, and Lupin - well he just speaks everything.
